We're rapt to share that The Appleton Ladies' Potato Race, yes, that play that everyone turned up to see and then some, selling out before we opened in the middle of a Macedon winter last year up on the mountain… well, guess what? We've been selected to present at Showcase Victoria this May, a prestigious event, with only a small number of works chosen from hundreds and hundreds of applicants across the state.
So what is Showcase Victoria, I hear you ask? A few years back, I didn't have a clue either. But what it does do is bring together venues, presenters and industry from right across Victoria and interstate, and provides an important platform for touring, funding opportunities, and future collaborations. It's a big deal, and it's an honour to be part of it.
This is a significant step toward a Victoria-wide regional tour in 2027, and we're looking forward to meeting venues, connecting with regional communities, and sharing this funny, warm-hearted and important play more broadly.

It's a story based in a small country town, about a small country town, and it has connected deeply with everyone and everywhere in every country town it's played.
Our season last year up on the mount was no different. It's an exciting moment to be invited to be part of it all, to meet artists, presenters and colleagues from across the sector, and to share in the work being made around the state.
A huge tip of the hat to the writer, Melanie Tait. Yes, she who is fast becoming one of our country's most celebrated playwrights. Mel has given her full support and backing of what we are doing, and is excited to see what lies ahead with the work and our company.

What makes this moment particularly meaningful is where it all began.
As an idea two years ago, of an independent, unfunded, community-based theatre production developed right here in the Macedon Ranges, it became something more than we expected, or even dreamt of. Through the commitment, generosity and belief of so many people, it grew into a season that sold over 1,500 seats, with waiting lists galore.
As the inaugural production of Constable Productions, based right here in downtown Woodend, it has marked an important moment, bringing together artists, collaborators and community in a way that feels like the start of something special and the beginning of our next chapter.
There are so many people to thank.

To the wonderful Appleton family, made up of our cast, creatives and production team, thank you.
And to the many friends and colleagues who offered their time, energy, and ongoing support, thank you.
And to everyone who bought a ticket and came along to see the show, your feedback, your support, and your standing ovations have helped carry this idea forward. Thank you.
It really does take a village and a community and all its bits and pieces to make these sorts of things happen, and we are very lucky to be part of it and to have the one we do.
We're excited for the journey that lies ahead. Follow along as we share more stories, updates, and insights at Constable Productions.
